Love B&D

3 NBAM staff members worked with the public in order to create a tile mosaic which together would read the letters ‘B&D’ inside a heart shape standing for Love Barking and Dagenham. 100 residents took part over the day in completing a 10 by 10cm tile in the Summer of Festival‘s colours – pink blue and yellow.

NBAM provided the design, materials and structure for the community to make something fantastic, regardless of age or ability! Each tile had a unique pattern on it. We stipulated where each colour needed to go in order to look like one piece of art once it came together but the participants chose from a range of materials provided (in the colours schemes) to decorate their tile uniquely. The festival-goers had no idea the final product would each complete their small tile to eventually make up a 1 by 1 m piece of artwork. 

The concept behind this day-long festival activity was that 100 people could take part in creating their own tile celebrating their individual whilst simultaneously celebrating how as we come together as society we produce something even more wonderful.
